EMBA Learning Tracks

The UTSA Executive MBA offers learning tracks for General Management and for Health Professionals.

General Management Track

The General Management track will provide you with the business knowledge, tools and acumen required to lead a successful organization. Within our collaborative learning community, your perspectives and voice are critical to the communication of core business topics.

Health Professionals Track

Our EMBA for Health Professionals track complements specialized healthcare expertise with general business knowledge and leadership skills. Participants take general business courses with the full EMBA cohort and break out into smaller groups for healthcare-specific courses.

Program at a Glance

  • Program Length: 21-months, 14 courses
  • Program Start: Annually in fall semester (late August)
  • Schedule: Classes will typically meet every other week on Saturday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Admission & Application Requirements

Applications are submitted through the UTSA Graduate Application. Please upload all required documents (listed below) on your UTSA Graduate Application. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure completion and submission of the application, a nonrefundable application fee, and all required supporting documents are on file with UTSA by the appropriate application deadline.

Executive MBA (EMBA)
Admission is only available for the Fall semester
  Required Degree Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in the United States or have proof of equivalent training at a foreign institution.
  Minimum GPA 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) Departments may consider GPA of last 60 semester credit hours
  Coursework 18 credit hours in an area related to this graduate degree and at least 12 hours must be at the upper-division level.
  Transcripts* Required from all institutions attended; international transcripts must be recorded/translated to English
  Credential Evaluation Required if you have earned university-level credit from foreign institutions. Submit an evaluation of your transcripts from Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) directly from the graduate admission application platform
  Purpose Statement Required
  Resume Required
  Letters of Recommendation 2 academic or professional reference(s) demonstrating your attributes for successful completion of this program (you will request these through the Graduate Admissions Application; let your recommenders know of your deadline to ensure submissions are on time)
*Unofficial transcripts will be taken into consideration for admissions; however, if admitted into the program, you must submit official transcripts to the University.

Applicants are encouraged to have their admission file completed as early as possible. All applications, required documents and letters of recommendation, if applicable, must be submitted by 5:00 PM U.S. Central Time on the day of the deadline. Deadlines are subject to change.

Executive MBA (EMBA)
Timing on Admission Decision: Completed applications will be reviewed for admission on a rolling basis. Decisions generally will be made and sent to applicants within 4 to 6 weeks of receiving the application.

What is the difference between a MBA and Executive MBA?

Our MBA programs are tailored to provide the optimal experience for a learner based on where they are in their career.

MBA

Professionals who are early in their career or who require a lot of flexibility to manage their course load should explore our part-time evening MBA. The program consists of 12 classes (36 credit hours), which includes nine foundational courses and three electives. You can further customize your experience with a pre-designed learning track, or complete one additional course to earn both an MBA degree as well as a topic-focused graduate certificate.

EMBA

Our Executive MBA program is perfect for professionals with managerial experience. It is a 21-month cohort that includes 43 credit hours. The program provides an excellent opportunity to connect and learn from peers from different industries and functional areas. Our EMBA program offers self-paced online modules, which you can complete according to your schedule and in-class sessions on designated Saturdays. During the in-class sessions, you will discuss and apply the content from the online modules.

Frequently Asked Questions

You do not need a c-suite title to participate in the EMBA program. Our successful applicants demonstrate a strong work ethic, have eight or more years of professional experience and have demonstrated increasing responsibility in their roles. If you are an aspiring professional looking to become an inspiring leader, or a current leader looking to build your business knowledge, the EMBA program may be a great fit for you.

Due to the nature of the program and the requirement of professional experience, the GMAT/GRE is not required for the Executive MBA program.

The average salary increase for our working professionals after graduation from a business master’s program is around 35%.

The Executive MBA program cost for the class starting in August is $68,380 for Texas residents and $83,634 for non-residents. A $3,000 deposit is due within 10 days of receiving an offer of admission.
